Ride Of Silence To Take Place May 20

Cyclists worldwide will take part in a silent slow-paced ride (maximum of 12 mph) in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways. Last year’s event brought out about 22,500 riders worldwide, with 300 different groups participating.

The 2009 event is especially timely to the multi-sport community as two athletes have been recently struck by vehicles while on out training on their bikes. Duathlete Andrea Ratkovic was hit by a car traveling 50 mph while riding on May 11, and six-time Ironman world champion Dave Scott was struck by a car attempting to make a u-turn while riding on May 17. Both athletes are currently in the process of recovering.
