Another idea I employ (similar to the jogging stroller) now that my kids are a little older, 8 years, I let him ride his bike in front of me while I run. My own pacer, it keeps me from slacking because he can ride faster than I can run!

As a mom of two toddlers and a triathlete, I was excited for this article, and found almost all tips both useful and to benefit the child as well. Until I read the ridiculous bullet about subjecting a toddler to "several" 18 mile runs. For even a fast runner, you are talking about strapping a toddler into a stroller for 2-2.5 hours...seriously?? I keep my stroller runs to 30-40 minutes as more then that seems unfair to a child who wants to be active and running around. Hire a sitter for these longer runs or child swap, start the run early am while a partner is at home, please don't subject your child to this long strapped in a seat...you wouldn't plop them sedentary in front of a TV for this long....kid yourself all you want, they are not "loving every minute" of hours in a stroller.

Great article and sound advice. I had my best races a few years ago when we did a bunch of bike trailer rides and jogging stroller runs followed by playtime in the lake. Nutrition is key as well - keep the family cued in on the diet and eating well with you.
