Matt Hoover, winner of NBC’s hit reality weight-loss show, The Biggest Loser, will be one of nearly 2000 participants to compete in the legendary Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, on October 10th, 2009. Hoover’s fitness will be tested as he tackles the 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run that make up the Ironman course.
“An Ironman triathlon is one of the hardest things you can do,” states Hoover, “and I’m honored to be participating on triathlon’s biggest stage, alongside the best triathletes in the world.”
TrainingBible Coaching agreed to train Hoover for Ironman well before his dream of competing in Kona became a reality. Now that the event is a reality and only a few months away, Jim Vance of TrainingBible Coaching has taken on the task of preparing Hoover for his first of perhaps many Ironman finishes. “Matt has a passion for the sport and all the mental skills and fortitude required to do this race well,” explains Vance. “He’s been extremely coachable, and fun to work with. We’re looking forward to seeing him complete his goal on October 10th and becoming a mainstay on the triathlon circuit.”
“TrainingBible Coaching has put together a program designed to help me do the best I can on October 10th,” says Hoover. “People train their entire lives for a chance to compete in this event and I don’t take the opportunity for granted. In fact, the magnitude and prestige of this race makes me even more focused to train and finish strong.
Hoover battled through season 2 of the Biggest Loser, winning the event by losing a total of 157 pounds. Matt married his fellow The Biggest Loser competitor and third place finisher Suzy Preston. The couple currently resides in Washington with their two children.
“When it comes right down to it, everyone needs inspiration. This race has inspired me to do what I once thought was impossible. I’m excited to become an Ironman, and I hope my journey inspires others to reach for higher goals and do something for themselves.”
