High ocean swells forced race directors to cancel the swim, but the more than 1,100 athletes competing in the USA Triathlon Sprint National Championship still enjoyed a great day of running and biking at the Pacific Coast Triathlon in Newport Beach, Calif., on Sunday.

The sold-out championship event saw 27 athletes earn national titles on the half-mile run, 12 mile bike, 3 mile run course. A total of 288 athletes also qualified to compete on Team USA at the first ITU World Sprint Championship being held September 10, 2009 in Gold Coast, Australia.
