For 2010, we think Trek’s sister brand, Gary Fisher, one-ups Trek in offerings for the year, highlighted by the Gary Fisher Superfly 100 FS 29er. JHK and Heather Irminger have been riding the Waterloo-made OCLB carbon rig with a shortened wheelbase, tapered headtube and integrated bottom bracket. Stiff and fast, this is one Xterra athletes should look at. It’ll price at $5,600.

The Trek Fuel EX 9.9 remains Trek’s flagship cross-country bike. It adds carbon seatstays that drops the frame 100 grams, and makes for a bike just a hair over 23 pounds. It maintains a super active suspension under braking with the ABP race suspension. It will price at $6,499.

While carbon is king, cost-friendly aluminum sells on the floors in the mountain bike realm—which is what makes the Trek Top Fuel 8 the go. Get the same braking, geometry, pedaling and suspension are the same—at $2,899.
