ALS Patient Earns Crowd’s Admiration At Ironman Florida

Carrying his rubber flippers, Scott Werts slowly made it up the beach behind the Boardwalk Beach Resort with his wife, Julie, at his side during Saturday’s Ironman Florida amid the loudest cheers of the morning.

The applause, hoots and hollers weren’t for his time of 2 hours, 46 seconds in the 2.4-mile swim. It was out of respect and admiration for a man who competed despite suffering from one of the most debilitating of diseases.
