In this month’s edition of Triathlete’s Multisport Menu, assistant editor Susan Grant reviews some of the newest nutrition products available for triathletes.

Gu Roctane Pineapple ($2.50 each)

This fall Gu debuts two new gels: Roctane pineapple and a winter seasonal flavor, vanilla ginger. The new pineapple Roctane, part of GU’s premium gel line engineered specifically for training and racing, adds pineapple to the mix, debuting not only as a new flavor but Roctane’s first caffeine-free offering. It delivers the same powerful levels of performance-boosting citrates, ornithine alpha-ketaglutarate (OKG) and branched-chain amino acids for those sensitive to the effects of caffeine.

Holiday Vanilla Ginger ($8 per 6-pack box)

For the holiday season, stores will see the addition of the flavor vanilla gingerbread. The new flavor complements Gu’s annual winter seasonal favorite, mint chocolate. A portion of the proceeds from the two holiday flavors benefits the Challenged Athletes Foundation.

Nuun U Cucumber Mint ($23.85 for three tubes)

Nuun is known for the unconventional, and was one of the first brands to deliver hydration tablets in a tube. For 2010, the Seattle-based company adds to it light “U” line a refreshing (and certainly unconventional) cucumber mint flavor. The flavor joins tangerine-ginger, goji berry green tea and lemon chai in the growing line.

MotorTabs Mixed Berry ($27.99 per 24-count box)

The choice of Michellie Jones, MotorTabs supplements its hydration tablet (complete with 65 calories and 250 mg of sodium per use) with a new mixed berry flavor, adding to a line that includes fruit punch, grape, lemon-lime and orange.

ActiVwater’s Talking Rain ($1.29/each)

Sometimes water is just too boring. That’s where ActiVwater comes in. Combining delicious, low-cal flavor with essential vitamins and minerals, ActiVwater is H20 for people who demand more from their liquids. Each of the line’s eight flavors has a different vitamin and supplement combination such as Vitamin A-Zinc, Gota Kola electrolytes and Glucosamine, found in the blackberry-flavored Balance beverage.
