Philadelphia Police and U.S. Coast Guard crews will resume their search today for a man who did not exit the Schuylkill River during the swim portion of a Saturday’s Philadelphia Sprint Triathlon. Because of the search, today’s Philadelphia Insurance Olympic-distance Triathlon was turned into a duathlon.
Police did not release the name of the 40-year-old, who entered the water at 8:22 a.m. with a group of swimmers in his age group.
“His wife and son were waiting at the end of the swim near where the bicycles were and he never exited the water,” said Philadelphia Police Lt. Joseph Walsh. “All the swimmers have electric timers they wear on their bodies. They know he entered the water because his microchip tripped the timer.”
