Vision-Impaired Triathletes Rally Against New Black Goggle Rule

The International Triathlon Union requires that vision-impaired paralympic athletes must wear blacked-out goggles during the run portion of races, or else be disqualified. USAT started enforcing the same rule as of May 1.

The impetus is to get triathlon included in the 2016 Paralympic Games. In an e-mail to Matt Miller, founder of the C Different Foundation, USAT CEO/executive director Skip Gilbert explained the goal is to have the fewest number of categories but maintain “fairness and safety.”
