The death of American open-water swimmer Fran Crippen during the last leg of the Marathon Swimming World Cup in the United Arab Emirates has continued received International attention. There is now speculation as to whether or not the race organization properly monitored the swimmers during the event.
The race in which a top U.S. swim star died may not have been monitored closely enough, another athlete told CNN on Monday.
“I may be mistaken, but I can’t remember seeing any boats that were going by us to watch the athletes a little bit closer, especially the ones that were falling behind,” German swimmer Jan Wolfgarten said.
“With the conditions that extreme, for future reference, there should be people watching what’s going on with the athletes,” Wolfgarten said.
