DeBoom calls it quits for future Ironman World Championship races.
Professional triathlete Tim DeBoom has the distinction of being the last American triathlete to claim victory at the Ironman World Championship. DeBoom took the coveted title in both 2001 and 2002. The 39-year-old has struggled in his last two appearances at the event. In 2009 he failed to finish the bike leg, and he finished 33rd in this year’s event next to another former world champion, Normann Stadler.
“That was it. I’m done. It felt like good closure this year,” DeBoom told Hawaii 24/7.
“The event is changing. For people who are coming to Kona for their first year, it’s all new and exciting,” he said. “And it really is, but for me now it’s getting a little cookie-cutter.”
