Unlike most professional sports teams, the nine members of the Trek/K-Swiss triathlon team spend most of their time thousands of miles apart, meeting up at an occasional race. Find out where the teammates are headed now that the team camp is coming to an end.
For better and worse, the life of a professional triathlete often involves chasing warm weather and locations with races featuring big prize purses. Team Trek/K-Swiss is disbanding after the training camp wraps up and the athletes will be heading across the globe to finish their off season before they all return to the U.S. for the northern summer.
Julie Dibens is going back to Boulder, Colo. where she has a home and lives with her husband Mike. Chris Lieto will stay in Kona where he and his family have been since Thanksgiving. Chris’ brother Matt is going back home to Bend, Ore. Lesley Paterson and Heather Jackson both live in sunny San Diego and will be returning home after the trip. Joe Gambles is returning to Tazmania where he grew up and still spends his Northern winters. Fraser Cartmell is from Scotland, but will be heading to South Africa where he has spent this winter training with other pro triathletes. Paul Matthews will also go back down under to live with his girlfriend before heading to Santa Cruz, Calif. to live and train with two-time Olympic medalist Bevan Docherty.
