Graham O’Grady Blames Poppy Seeds For Doping Glitch

New Zealand triathlon champ is exonerated after testing positive for morphine following Tauranga half ironman win in January.

A New Zealand triathlete who tested positive for morphine has been exonerated after a doping tribunal accepted evidence the drug was likely ingested in bread containing poppy seeds.

Graham O’Grady tested positive to morphine after a half ironman event at Tauranga on New Zealand’s North Island in January.

Counsel for O’Grady told the New Zealand Sports Tribunal the source of the minimal amount of drug found in the athlete’s system was likely gluten free poppy seed bread he consumed before the race.
