floorplan
The open layout lends itself to lots of natural light, and employees rarely have to turn on any lights. Bikes—mainly employees’ old rides—hang from the ceiling. Who’d ever want to give up that tandem?

kitchen
The two Kali’s chefs used to work in the division that created new Clif bars, but they truly wanted to get into the restaurant business. As a result, lunches are more creative than your typical work cafeteria.

We recently had a chance to tour Clif Bar headquarters in Emeryville, Calif., where the company has been based since October 2010. The building, which used to be an old valve manufacturing plant during World War II, is incredibly environmentally-friendly—the wood is reclaimed (some stairs even have words like “Nicole + John” etched into the wood), solar panels line the ceiling and old blue jeans serve as insulation. In fact, next year the company hopes to achieve the coveted LEED certification, which is only given to buildings with the most measureable “green” status.
The 115,000-square foot area houses everything from a company theatre that fits 350 to an elaborate wellness center with massage rooms and a climbing wall. Take a look at some photos from inside the building. When you’re done with the tour, check out this time-lapsed video that shows the three-month building process in less than two minutes.
