Race Favorites Potts and Snow Don’t Disappoint at Ironman 70.3 Florida
Andy Potts and Caitlin Snow proved their race-favorite status after both winning Ironman Florida 70.3 on Sunday, May 15. As usual Potts led out of the water with a 23:25 swim split, and with a 2:08:44 bike and 1:17:44 run, he took first with almost a four-minute lead. Snow’s signature run speed didn’t let up during her 1:20:30 half marathon, which beat any other female run time by more than 7 minutes and eventually gave her a 6:05 lead over second place finisher Nina Kraft.
Second-place men’s finisher Maxim Kriat started with a slower 26:04 swim, but his race-fastest split of 1:17:04 earned him second place overall. David Kahn (3:58:13) and Stanislav Krylov (3:59:01) both snuck under the 4:00 mark to take third and fourth place.
New Zealand’s Anna Cleaver was first out of the water with a flat 26:00 and kept her lead with a 2:23:32 bike split through T2. She ended up finishing 6th after slowing down on the run, where she was passed by multiple-Ironman champ Kraft, who held on to second. And despite coming out of the water more than 10 minutes after the leader, third place finisher Heather Leiggi made her way up to the last podium spot in 4:32:14.
