Thor Hushovd, now the race leader, started the TTT wearing the King of the Mountains polka dots despite being in 3rd place in that classfication because 1st and 2nd wore the yellow and green jerseys. He and the rest of team Garmin Cervelo raced the Cervelo P4 with Fizik saddles, Speedplay pedals and Giro Selector aerohelmets.

Starting the TTT (without a swim before) on the road allows the cyclists to address aero details that triathletes sometimes leave alone. Nearly every racer at the TdF TTT wore booties. These were designed by aerodynamicist Simon Smart, the brain behind Enve’s new aero wheels.
