Photos: The Wildflower Run Course

After turning off Lake San Antonio, the trail winds past two smaller lakes that are lined by yellow wildflowers and hanging trees.

The run course starts along Lake San Antonio then turns inland up this steep paved road.

After the second lake, the course starts to get even more difficult.

This slowly rising crushed gravel hill is a precursor to the rest of the course.

After turning off the second small lake, the trail winds through soft rolling hills covered in tall grass.

The scenery is supposed to distract you from the race, I guess.

Hanging trees with long strands of dangling moss line the next couple miles.

These beautiful moss growths are all over Northern California.

The trees wrap over top of the trail and provide a brief respite from the sun.

Even the trees are affected by the topography.

This is the most remote portion of the run course, but we think it's also the most beautiful.

Can't believe it has only been five miles.

After cresting a steep hill, the trail spits you out at a beautiful wide overlook then kicks you down an incredibly steep hill.

The scenery alone is worth the trip this remote part of central California.

Grass fields line the sixth and seventh miles.

The dirt trails are forgiving.

Back in the campground, the dirt trail follows the road.

The next couple of miles are through the most popular camping area. Crowds line the trail like a Tour de France mountain pass.

The last mile straight down Lynch Hill.

When you see Lake San Antonio again, you'll know you're almost done.
