Australia’s Joe Gambles and Canada’s Angela Naeth earned the victories at Ironman 70.3 Syracuse on Sunday.
Gambles beat out a tough men’s field thanks to a 1:14:27 half marathon. He finished in 3:53:51, just a minute ahead of second-place finisher Paul Ambrose, also of Australia. The third spot went to New Zealand’s Callum Millward.
In the women’s race, Naeth made up for a slower swim by dominating the bike and run to take the 4:16:27 victory. Former 70.3 world champ Jodie Swallow turned in a well-rounded day to finish second, with Australia’s Nikki Butterfield snagging the final podium position.
