Australia’s Chris McCormack and Japans Keiko Tanaka took the victories at today’s Ironman 70.3 Japan.

McCormack had planned on racing last weekend’s Ironman 70.3 UK, but ultimately wasn’t able to make it to Great Britain because of a passport issue. After not being selected for Australia’s 2012 London Olympic time, the two-time Ironman world champ is chasing points to race at the Ironman World Championship 70.3 race in Henderson, Nev. on Sept. 9. With the Japan win, McCormack takes home 500 70.3 points toward qualification.

McCormack narrowly edged out fellow Australian Tim Berkel at the 70.3 Japan finish line. McCormack finished in 4:03:40, with Berkel only two seconds behind at 4:03:42. Third place went to Fredrik Croneborg of Sweeden.

Tanaka earned the victory with a time of 4:37:33. Japan’s Saori Ohmatsu was second, with Taiwan’s Shiao Yu Li earning third.
