Americans To Watch
Hunter Kemper (USA)
After an elbow injury last year that required five surgeries and caused a staph infection that left him bedridden for weeks, Kemper made an emotional return to ITU racing by qualifying for his fourth Olympic team in San Diego in May. While Kemper is on the older side, he has Olympic experience and is known for being a big-day racer. He could surprise and come away with a medal.
Manny Huerta (USA)
Cuban immigrant Manny Huerta was the story of the Olympic trials in San Diego, as he popped the race of his career to qualify for theteam. In a tear-filled interview afterward, he talked about never giving up on his dream of qualifying for the Olympics despite his long-shot status and less-than-stellar races beforehand. He dedicated the race to his mother, who is battling cancer and who left Cuba when Huerta was 13 so her children could have a chance to chase their dreams.
