More than 40 professional triathletes from across the word, including four Olympic triathletes, will compete in this weekend’s Herbalife Los Angeles Triathlon in Southern California. The race serves as the sixth stop in the seven-event Life Time Fitness Triathlon Series Race to the Toyota Cup (see the complete rankings here).

The Series
Current men’s leader Cameron Dye of the United States has made this series a priority in his season and he will look to hold onto that top spot by making the start in Los Angeles. Fellow Americans Ben Collins and Hunter Kemper currently hold onto the second and third spots in the standings, respectively, and are less than 10 points out of the top position.

On the women’s side, current series leader Sarah Haskins of the United States is not on the start list, but no matter the outcome in Los Angeles she will continue to sit at the top. Her commanding 19.5-point lead over fellow American Alicia Kaye means that she will head into the series final in Dallas on Oct. 7 in the No. 1 position. Kaye, Annabel Luxford (AUS), Jillian Petersen (USA) and Jenna Parker (USA) will all look to hold onto their top-five spots in the rankings by competing on Sunday.

The Race
Professionals will kick off the day with a 1500m swim at Venice beach, then ride 40km through the Fairfax District and will end the race with a 10km run through downtown Los Angleles before finishing at L.A. Live.

In addition to competing for important series points, the professionals will be vying for their share of the $40,000 prize purse. Nearly 2,500 age group triathletes will also compete (there is also a shorter sprint option) in Sunday’s event. See the complete professional start lists below and check back to Triathlete.com for a race recap and a photo gallery from the day.
