A sold-out field raced at the 2012 Land Rover TriRock Austin Triathlon on Labor Day.
Following a swim, bike and run throughout downtown Austin, Land Rover TriRock Austin Triathlon celebrated a host of winners, including locals Jamie Cleveland and Andrea Fisher, who not only placed first in the Overall Intermediate Open for men and women, respectively, but are also married to each other. Cleveland finished with a time of 1:58:23, while his wife completed the race in 2:14:30.
“The heat wasn’t a factor, the legs felt a little heavy, but there was a bit of a breeze and some cloud coverage,” said Cleveland. “I was concerned with everyone in the field, but I got a good jump off the swim and made the most of it. Being in my hometown and having people know your name and cheer for you along the course, helped too.”
The endurance duo each took home a custom designed Taylor guitar for top prize, while age-group winners ran three deep in the Overall Open, Overall Intermediate, Overall Sprint and Clydesdale/Athena divisions. All Austin participants received a finisher’s medal, technical t-shirt, red carpet finish, post-race breakfast and access to the post-race party, finish line concert and beer garden.
Formerly known as the Austin Triathlon, Land Rover TriRock Austin started on Auditorium Shores at Lady Bird Lake and winded through the streets of downtown. Participants were cheered on by spectators and live bands on the swim, bike and run courses. The day concluded with U2 cover band Mysterious Ways, who rocked the finish line festival.
