Video: The More Than Sport Mission

More Than Sport has announced a lineup of podium-topping professional triathletes who will partner with the organization to support its annual community service and giveback program, taking place in conjunction with the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.

Top Ironman athletes Craig Alexander, Tim O’Donnell, Linsey Corbin and Meredith Kesller will all join fellow pro Chris Lieto in contributing to the More Than Sport mission.

“I’ve won three world titles in Kona and it’s been a blessing so I want to give back to the Island that has done so much for me,” said three-time Ironman World Champion Craig Alexander. “My racing is so much more than my titles — it is my family, my supporters and being able to give back to those in need and that is why I race for More Than Sport and encourage everyone to give back where they can.”

More Than Sport, now in its 3rd year, empowers devoted amateur and professional athletes to give back in new ways, and serve the communities where they race, ride, play or compete. This year, the program will partner with Lift Up America’s Ambassadors of Compassion to help mentor and coach teens from the Big Island through an eight-week program. As the future of Hawaii, many of them have never had anyone to look up to or teach them critical life principles that so many people take for granted.

Ambassadors of Compassion will help More Than Sport take this year’s program to the next level by bringing together the proven and practical wisdom and expertise learned by leaders and influencers from around the world and infusing their knowledge and experience into a curriculum that impacts the hearts of the island’s youth.

Join World Class Athletes to Empower Kona’s Youth

It’s not just the pros who can make a difference in the community where they’re racing. More Than Sport encourages amateur athletes, spectators and supporters to join the team to help reach the program’s goal of sending 141 youth through a life changing journey – each one representing one mile raced in the Ironman.  Financially this equates to $21,150 ($150 per teen). Anyone can contribute towards reaching this goal and helping empower youth with the tools for success by creating a personal fundraising page at Crowdrise.com or giving to an athlete’s fundraising page.
