New Zealanders Dylan McNeice and Gina Crawford took the wins at the Challenge Wanaka triathlon in Wanaka, New Zealand on Saturday. The pair showed impressive early-season fitness to beat out tough fields.

McNeice combined a 47:56 swim, a 4:58:14 bike and a 2:59:59 marathon to take the 8:51:18 iron-distance victory.  He beat out fellow Kiwi Jamie Whyte who posted an impressive 4:52:42 bike split and ultimately finished second in 8:55:43. Two-time Ironman world champion Chris McCormack (AUS) competed in his first Challenge event since signing on as an ambassador for the brand and finished third.

Crawford took the women’s title with combined times of a 59:14 swim, a 5:08:30 bike and a 3:11:07 run. Her overall time of 9:24:31 was good enough for seventh overall and a new course record. New Zealand’s Candice Hammond earned second 20 minutes later, with veteran Joanna Lawn, also of New Zealand, rounding out the podium just eight seconds later.
