Despite a lack of prize money at the Leadman Marquee Tempe event, a few professional athletes chose to toe the line and test their early-season fitness.

The event followed two days of collegiate national championship racing at Tempe Town Lake. The Sunday races, produced by Life Time Fitness, showcased three different distances: the Leadman, an Olympic and a sprint.

After a few weeks of uncertainty surrounding the Leadman 125K course, race organizers ultimately put together a one-loop 2.5K swim in Tempe Town Lake, a four-lap 109.5K bike around Tempe and a 13K trail run through Papago Park.

Professional Jozsef Major (HUN), who lives and trains in the Phoenix area, combined a 37:40 swim, a 2:47:09 bike and a 51:29 run to earn the 4:18:58 victory.

On the women’s side, it was Christina Jackson (USA) who earned the win. She put together a 36:16 swim, a 3:09:28 bike and a 59:39 run to narrowly outpace pro Hillary Biscay (USA).

Complete results.
