Denmark’s Martin Jensen turned in an all-around day to take the men’s win, while Canada’s Angela Naeth rode hard and then held off two fast-running athletes to earn the women’s title at Ironman 70.3 Racine.

Men’s Race
Jensen started his day out front with a swim time of 24:01 for the 1.2 miles. Former ITU athletes Ivan and Denis Vasiliev and a handful of other contenders followed him closely. American Andrew Starykowicz was part of that main group and quickly put his cycling skills to work. He found the lead by mile 30 of the bike and grew it to 1:45 over Jensen to start the half marathon. Starykowicz held strong in the lead through the early miles of the run, but Jensen had the better last leg. Jensen’s 1:15:16 run split propelled him to the 3:47:05 win. Starykowicz cruised in for second, with Ivan Vasiliev rounding out the top three.

Women’s Race
Super swimmer Haley Chura (USA) led out of the swim thanks to a time of 25:40. Fellow American Jenna Parker was next into T1 nearly a minute later, with Barbara Riveros emerging nearly 90 seconds after Parker. The heavy hitters of the race, including Naeth, Australia’s Mirinda Carfrae and Scotland’s Catriona Morrison all came into T1 with some work to make up the time on the leaders. Parker enjoyed a lead out front on the bike, but strong cyclists Naeth and Morrison chased her down before the women reached T2. Naeth carried the lead onto the run, with Morrison (1:23 back) and Parker (1:42 back) following. Morrison made up that deficit in the first half of the run, but Naeth wasn’t willing to give it up easily. She stayed with Morrison and eventually excelled back to the lead. She crossed the finish line in 4:15:00 to hold off both Morrison and Carfare. Carfrae passed a fading Morrison to earn second, while Morrison held on for a podium spot.
