The threat of Tropical Storm Karen has caused the cancellation of the 18th annual Santa Rosa Island Triathlon in Pensacola Beach, Fla. on Saturday.
The event, sold out more than a month ago with 1,200 entrants, was to take place on Pensacola Beach and featured a swim in the Gulf of Mexico, a bike race and run.
But with the potential impact of the storm and all the logistical concerns, race director Charles Gheen said on his Facebook page the event had to be canceled.
“It may slow down and it may be sunny on Pensacola Beach on Saturday morning, but both bodies of water will probably be too rough to swim, the gusts of wind will make the road difficult if not impossible to bike.”
