Americans Andrew Starykowicz and Meredith Kessler were the victors at today’s Rev3 Florida triathlon in Venice, Fla. The half-Rev distance race (1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, 13.1-mile run) closed out Rev3’s eight-race pro series for 2013. Both Starykowicz and Kessler came into the Florida race with a full season under their belts and both competed at last month’s Ironman World Championship. Starykowicz also raced in last weekend’s Ironman Florida triathlon, finishing second.
Starykowicz used his usual tactic of exiting the water toward the front, hammering to a significant lead on the bike and then holding off the faster runners to take the win. He combined a 25:01 swim, a 1:58:46 bike and a 1:21:36 run to claim the 3:47:50 win. Australia’s Richie Cunningham was one of the fastest swimmers and runners on the day, but couldn’t keep pace with the American on the bike and had to settle for second in 3:49:46. American Eric Limkemann, who has focused his season around the Rev3 Series, was the third finisher at 3:50:05.
Kessler was one of the fastest competitors in every leg of the race. Her 26:11 swim, 2:19:16 bike and 1:23:24 run easily gave her the victory as she crossed the line at 4:11:48. American Lauren Goss was near the front from the beginning and ran her way to second position, finishing in 4:16:46. American Jennifer Spieldenner turned in an all-around effort to grab the final podium spot at 4:21:20.
