Canada’s Andrew Yorke claimed the men’s win, while the United States’ Sarah Haskins posted another early-season victory on Saturday in the PATCO Sprint Triathlon Pan American Championships at Nathan Benderson Park.

Yorke surged ahead in the final stretch of the race to win in 50:57. Ben Kanute (USA) raced in the lead pack for the entire sprint-distance race and was the top finishing American in second at 51:04.
Leonardo Chacon from Costa Rica was third with a time of 51:18.

Haskins logged a time of 57:03 on the 750-meter swim, 19.3-kilometer bike, 5-kilometer run course to claim her second straight win in Florida. She also won the March 1 Clermont ITU Sprint Triathlon Pan American Cup. Canadian Amelie Kretz was second in 57:38, and Tamara Gorman (USA) rounded out the podium in 57:44 on the flat, fast course.

“Right now I think it’s tougher because I’m still getting in a little bit of training between races, because it’s early in the season,” Haskins said of her back-to-back wins. “It’s great to be out here. This was my first time racing here [in Sarasota] and it’s an awesome course.”
