Nearly 4,000 triathletes are gearing up for this Sunday’s Panasonic New York City Triathlon. They’ll swim through the Hudson River, ride along Manhattan’s West Side Highway and finally run through the famed Central Park. The is the first year the race will be run under the ownership of Life Time Fitness.

The event features a $30,000 prize purse and is the fourth stop in the six-race pro series, which will culminate at the championship race in Oceanside, Calif. on Oct 26. It’s also part of the Toyota Triple Crown Triathlon Series, which means it will follow an “equalizer” format with the women takingoff 12 minutes ahead of the men. The male or female with the overall cumulative fastest time given the handicaps at the three races (Minneapolis and Oceanside are the other two) will earn a $50,000 bonus.

Men’s Preview
American Cameron Dye will look to build on a commanding lead in the series with another victory. The non-drafting Olympic distance is his specialty, and he’ll be the favorite going into Sunday’s race. His toughest competition will likely come from Jordan Jones (USA), Ben Collins (USA) and Matty Reed (USA). Also look for former ITU speedster Brad Kahlefeldt (AUS) and 70.3 specialist Jesse Thomas (USA) to be in contention for podium spots. They’re reaching a bit out of their comfort zones in this discipline, but have had successful careers and will be competitive.

Women’s Preview
With a strong finish, Alicia Kaye (USA) will likely take a lead in the series as current series leader Sarah Haskins (USA) has been sidelined with an injury and will not compete. Kaye will be the heavy favorite, with competition likely coming from Radka Vodickova (CZE), Sara McLarty (USA), Jillian Petersen (USA), Rebeccah Wassner (USA), Laurel Wassner (USA) and Katie Hursey (USA).
