Nuun Sponsors Challenged Athletes Foundation Ahead Of Rio 2016 Paralympics

Nuun announced today that it has partnered with Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) as an official sponsor for its Elite Paratriathlon team for 2016. As the official hydration sponsor, Nuun will provide financial, product and educational support as the athletes prepare to head to Brazil for the 2016 Paralympic Games.

“The Challenged Athletes Foundation is an inspiring organization and the Nuun team is very honored to partner with them and CAF’s Elite Paratriathlon Team on their road to Rio,” shared Kevin Rutherford, Nuun President and CEO. “At Nuun, we’re on a mission to inspire a healthier, happier, more active lifestyle so that everyone can achieve life’s next personal best. Together, with CAF, we can help these outstanding athletes compete at the highest level. ”

Fundraising will be through initiatives such as the Nuun year dash virtual race taking place in February, with 100% of the proceeds being donated to the team. As part of the partnership, Nuun will supply team members optimal hydration and provide sports nutrition education for their training and racing. Throughout the year, Nuun will also be onsite at multiple CAF events.

CAF’s Elite Paratriathlon Team Member, Mike Barr, who is an above-knee amputee and has earned a spot to represent Team USA at the Rio 2016 Paralympics commented on the partnership: “Thanks to the tireless efforts, passion and support of CAF and fantastic partners like Nuun, paratriatheletes are able to train and compete at the highest level possible. I am excited and honored to compete in the first-ever Paratriathlon competition at the sporting worlds greatest stage for physically challenged athletesthe Paralympic Games. I am looking forward to making my country proud and bringing home the Gold Medal for Team USA.”

Three CAF team members have already secured provisional spots for Team USA and many others are training to qualify at the World Championships in July in the Netherlands. The athletes are supported with adaptive and sports equipment, wound recovery, training stipends, race expenses and access to high performance camps.
