Australia’s Craig Alexander and Switerland’s Caroline Steffen turned in strong performances in Geelong to take their first wins of the new year. Alexander’s win was thanks to a blazing run time of 1:11:57, while Steffen dominated the women’s field on the second leg of the race with a bike time of 2:20:38.

Defending Champs Return To Ironman 70.3 Geelong

In the spirit of racing close to home, both Australia’s Craig Alexander and New Zealand’s Samantha Warriner will return to Geelong to defend their 2009 victories.

Despite the caliber of some of the names in this weekend’s Ironman 70.3 Geelong, the race’s placement at the end of many athlete’s off seasons means that it is possible for lesser-known athletes to take the victories.
